Institute for Systems Engineering and Computers at Coimbra (INESC Coimbra) is a non-profit private institute resulting from a partnership between the Universidade de Coimbra (University of Coimbra) and INESC (Institute for Systems and Computers Engineering), evaluated and financed by the Pluri-annual Program from the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia-FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology).
INESC Coimbra received the rating of "Very Good" in the last FCT evaluation of R&D (Research and Development) institutes, 2003-2006.
INESC Coimbra research team is a strongly interdisciplinary group. Its researchers come mostly from the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra (Science and Technology Faculty of Coimbra University), namely Departamento de Engenharia Electrotécnica e de Computadores (Electrotechnics and Computers Enginieering Department), Departamento de Engenharia Civil (Civil Engineering) e Departamento de Matemática (Mathematics Department), and from the Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra (Economics Faculty of Coimbra University), as well as from the Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra - Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Coimbra (Coimbra Polytechnic Institute - Coimbra Institute of Engeneering), from the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria - Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão de Leiria (Polytechnic Institute of Leiria - School of Technology and Management of Leiria), of the Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal -Escola Superior de Tecnologia (Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal - School of Technology), and of the Instituto Politécnico de Viseu (Polytechnic Institute of Viseu) and of the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (Polytechnic Institute of Bragança).
A branch office of INESC Coimbra is located in the Leiria Polytechnic Institute.
The INESC Coimbra inherits a diversified experience in R&D activities, involving about many projects within the framework of the national scientific and technological system (FCT), as well as under contract with enterprises (in particular EDP and PT Groups), with the European Commission, and with entities of Portuguese Public Central Administration and several Local Administration.
The INESC Coimbra actively contributes in the advanced formation of human resources; supporting R&D activities under master’s and doctorate programs, in the origin institutions of their researchers. |
